Rationale

Cyber-Space is often intended as the future, yet it is the present. A scanned image, a word-processor document, an email message are simply reduced into a sequence of binary elements, and packed in a space which is virtual in its electronic substance but real in its material outprint. Thisis intended both in our private use and in our communicative activity.

Lo spazio cibernetico, spesso inteso come il futuro, è già il presente.Un’immagine scannerizzata, un documento digitato, un messaggio di posta elettronica sono semplicemente ridotti a una sequenza di elementi binari e liofilizzati in uno spazio che è virtuale nella sua sostanza elettronica ma reale nella sua uscita di stampa. Ciò vale sia per il nostro uso privato che per le nostre attività di comunicazione

In which way can computers, computer-devices and broadcasting technology be useful and powerful for Rock Art research? Must we emphasise editing and printing facility of books, booklet and newsletters, or database applications, or image manipulation or multimedia features? Must we focus on hardware or software?

In che modo i computer, le attrezzature informatiche e le reti multimediali possono essere utili e potenti strumenti nel campo della ricerca dell’Arte Rupestre? Dobbiamo porre l’accento sulle facilitazioni raggiunte nell’impaginazione e nella stampa di libri, libretti e notiziari, o nelle applicazioni di banche dati, o nella manipolazione delle immagini o nelle potenzialità multimediali? Dobbiamo privilegiare il settore dell’hardware o quello del software?

Surely not! The scope is large and paths will lead in many directions. Thereare as many possibilities as the mind can conceive. The hard-software evolution is rapid and impossible to predict. As Cyber-Space is the present,this present rapidly becomes the past. “Computers and Rock Art” will be like an openscreen, with different “windows” (if you will excuse the pun) leading invarious directions or “folders”.

Niente di tutto ciò. L’obiettivo è vasto e il sentiero può portare in molte direzioni. Le possibilità sono molte, tante quante la mente può concepire. L’evoluzione delle macchine e dei programmi è così rapida da non potere essere predetta. Così come lo spazio cibernetico rappresenta il presente, così il presente si trasforma molto rapidamente in passato. “Arte rupestre e computer” vuole essere come uno schermo aperto, ricco di differenti finestre capaci di condurre in varie direzioni

Ogni argomento o file correlato (di formato *.doc – *.tif – *.jpg o *.xyz) è bene accetto per la discussione.
