TRACCE no.
The Salomon's
knot
We are developing a research on the symbol of the "Salomon's knot",
checked since I-IV Century A.D. in all the Roman imperial territory (mostly
mosaic floors) then in the entire Christian world (still mosaics), in the
Barbarian (for example fibulas, belt trimmings), in the first medieval
Christian (pluteus, marble elements), in the Romanesque and Gothic (capitals
and vanets, miniatures), in the Renaissance (specially in the Florentine
paintings) and in many other cases of the following eras (synagogues, decorative
art of various type).
| Avignon (F),
Popes' Palace, tile with the "Salomon's Knot" and spiral in the middle
(XIV c.) |
| Saint Jean
de Maurienne (F), Cathedral, Salomon's Knot on a capital of the krypt (XI
century) |
Seen the amplitude of the research, that we have
been developing for 5 years, we ask kind collaboration to everybody has
notices about the symbol: the signalling will be cited by name in the publishing.
Please send, if possible, pictures, chronological and context notes.
Thank you.
